Enchanted House
June 20, 2014
I have discovered a new favorite house in Seattle, this enchanting, turreted, embellished residence in the Queen Anne neighborhood of north Seattle. Its decorative carvings, embellishments, and forest-green color give it a fairy tale quality that is captivatingly charming. You just want to stop and look and look. And then you realize that the carefully chosen plantings in the yard and garden mimic perfectly the color scheme of the building. It is simply an exquisite package.
The Latin motto carved into the turret, “Quo Amplius Eo Amplius,” can be translated as “Something More Beyond Plenty” or “The More the Better.” The flourishes and decorative touches could have easily gone overboard, but here everything is proportioned just right.
