What Do You Love Best?
October 16, 2015
“[Ask yourself] ‘What have you truly loved thus far? What has uplifted your soul, what has dominated and delighted at the same time?’ Assemble these revered objects in a row before you and perhaps they will reveal a law by their nature and their order: the fundamental law of your very self. Compare these objects, see how they complement, enlarge, outdo, transfigure one another; how they form a ladder on whose steps you have been climbing up to yourself so far; for your true self does not lie buried deep within you, but rather rises immeasurably high above you, or at least above what you commonly take to be your I.”
— Friedrich Nietzsche
I like this quote. It affirms another one from an earlier post about doing what makes you feel alive.
And what are the objects of my aliveness? Books, pens and paper, brushes and paints, flowers and food, squirrels and crows. . . All the things that I blog about! What are some items on your lists?

I recognise your paintings. Is the quilt one you made?

Yes, this was a Christmas table runner that I use as a wall hanging. It is veru scrappy, lots of little pieces, and the colors go with our living room.

The things I blog about! On Noticing Nature, if they just have inner meaning for me I share them rather than ‘talk’ about them.

I’ve been thinking about this for a few days now. I was pretty clear on the fact that I love my cat and I love learning, but objects? That was tougher. I guess I’d have to say: my camera, my computer, my books. Also: the original artwork I have, some family jewelry, and souvenirs of my travels. That’s quite a bit, really.
Oh. And my car. Princess. I love her to bits!

Today? The kitty is gone — but I still love her. And I love my camera more!
