Christmas tree, a rustic wooden trellis

Christmas tree, a rustic wooden trellis

“Happy, happy Christmas, that can win us back to the delusions of our childish days; that can recall to the old man the pleasures of youth; that can transport the sailor and the traveller, thousands of miles away, back to his own fire-side and his quiet home!”
— Charles Dickens, The Pickwick Papers

Ornament

This year instead of a live tree, I decorated a rustic, weathered wooden trellis.  Strung with lights, a paper star garland, and a few favorite ornaments, its A-shape resembles a real evergreen tree, don’t you think?

At first glance, I thought it was an artist’s easel. It’s a great idea, and really attractive.

My tree for the last 15 years or so has been artificial, but unusual. Instead of the usual pine or fir shape, it’s a double-trunked Texas Hill Country cedar. I just love it. I’ll take a pic of it tonight after it gets its final touch – the tinsel.

I’m still using the same metal tinsel that we used on our tree when I was a kid. We put it on strand by strand, and took it off the same way, wrapping it around cardboard and carefully stowing it. Amazing, really.

Hope you share the photo here so all my readers can view it. I chuckled to hear about your tinsel. My mom did the same thing, saving tinsel from year to year. But I don’t think it lasted beyond two or three Christmases. When is tinsel too worn to be saved?

Love your tree and the paper star garland you crafted! That was alot of work but I’m sure made with love for your little tree!
