A Short Walk from Pioneer Square to the Pike Place Market

The character of old Seattle still graces the ambience of the Pioneer Square area of Seattle and along Western Avenue to the Pike Place Market.

I’m completely entranced by the resemblance between your rockfish sketch and the totem poles! I like the pergola, too. And those are pretty fancy manhole covers.

Until you and Camilla pointed out the resemblance between the totem poles and the rock fish, I hadn’t noticed. The way the rock fish are laid out in a stacked line does seem totem-pole-like, and the stylized animals on the totem pole do have some of the same curving, ovoid lines as the fish faces. Interesting!

Love your sketch of the totem pole. There is even a hint of the native style in the rockfish sketch. Nice! (Oh, I just saw that I’m not the only one who sees that! :-)) Great photos, too, as always.

great to see the Seattle scenes. Haven’t been to the market in several years. I like your sketching too.
I was interested in an old schoolhouse I saw in Eastern Washington and in my research I found you blog with the pictures of the schoolhouse. Do you know anything about the building? I am curious about its history.

I know the schoolhouse you are referring to, and I know nothing about it. I just pulled over to the side of the road and took photos of it. Let me know if you uncover any information about it.
