Painting with the Ladies at Bonnie’s Farm

The ladies under a tulip tree

This was my second painting en plein air outing with my lady friends from Bow, Washington.  We met under a tulip tree on Bonnie’s little 40-acre farm in the Skagit Valley.  I am still intimidated by landscapes and focused my work on a broken window rather than on the whole barn.  Maybe someday I’ll feel brave enough to paint a whole composition with buildings in a landscape — and even with people!!

Great post! The painting is wonderful. I understand being intimidated (and at my level, I would never touch a landscape!), but art isn’t only technical skill: most people can see the beauty in a landscape, but not everyone can see (and fewer can convey) the beauty in a barn window, and you can, in more than one medium. If you can do this, I’m confident that inspired landscapes are in your future. And I always love the way you combine your painting and photography. Also like the editing of the tulip tree photo, reminds me of an old, colorized black and white. Cool!

Beautiful painting Rosemary, of the barn window…I totally agree with Camilla on your capabilities as an artist!

  4. Your watercolors are lovely! No need to paint a whole landscape or fill the paper entirely. Celebrate what you do so well.

Thank you! I consider myself a beginner painter, but I look forward to growing in skill as I keep working at it.
