Peaches and Towers of Books

August 6, 2012

“One day I would have all the books in the world, shelves and shelves of them.  I would live my life in a tower of books.  I would read all day long and eat peaches.”
— Jacqueline Kelly, from The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate

Eating peaches and reading books

Peaches and a tower of library books

Today’s’ quote certainly captures two of the pleasures of summer — eating peaches and reading books!

I highly recommend The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate, a story about an 11-year-old girl and her relationship with her grandfather who helps open her eyes to the wonders of the natural world.  It’s an ode to life, to paying attention, to thinking.  If you’ve ever toyed with the idea of keeping a nature journal, this book will inspire you.

I’m pretty much making it my goal to read all day every day until school starts again. 🙂 I’ll have to make The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate one of those books I’m devouring.
