Simple Pleasures: Jigsaw Puzzles

December 12, 2010

We have a couple of Christmas jigsaw puzzles that we bring out once very few years.  I got them at garage sales.  We set a puzzle up on a small table and work on it, off and on, throughout the holiday season.  It’s simple, old-fashioned fun.

Jigsaw puzzles are one of those things that harken back to my childhood. My grandmother loved jigsaw puzzles, and every year at Christmas time she’d set up a card table with a puzzle on it. People would sit a few minutes and put in a piece or two or remain for hours working together companionably. A new puzzle at Christmas is a tradition we’ve continued in our family. Santa brings it and leaves it under the tree for all to enjoy!
