Cutouts and silhouettes

I thought I’d share my latest art project — a couple of paper cutouts.  I’m still slowly trying to incorporate making art into my days.

Lovely! When we were little, my mother painted silhouettes of my brother and me; I wonder where they are now? Silhouettes are so evocative of an earlier time, but the artist Kara Walker uses them to make provocative and profound room-sized tableaux dealing with themes of racism, sexism, and violence in antebellum America. They are also very beautiful.

Here’s a link to a NY Times article about Kara Walker: http://topics.nytimes.com/topics/reference/timestopics/people/w/kara_walker/index.html.

Thanks, Lynne, for introduing me to a new artist!
