Winter Reading

My stack of books for winter reading

The landscape of my mind, as reflected in the books I’m currently reading, seems to mirror the winter outside.  For me, it’s a time for introspection. I seem drawn to books about people living in solitude and silence.

I especially enjoyed Sara Maitland’s A Book of Silence about her experiences living apart in the country.  She speaks to a growing need for silence and solitude in her life as she ages.  I found the book quite fascinating.  I may have some hermit tendencies myself.

I don’t know if you still feel drawn to books about people living in solitude and silence, but its a good description of my feeling right now!
Curious & drawn to – and after having read Susan Cain’s “Quiet” I can also enjoy this hermit part of myself better.

I love reading about people who leave the “rat race” and find the rewards of a quiet life. I need a lot of solitude in my life, and yet I feel that the things that matter most are family, friends, lending a helping hand, etc. I still haven’t resolved this quandary.
I did read Quiet and loved its support of introverts like me.
