Re-reading Classics

December 12, 2009

Our pile of Christmas and holiday books

“When you reread a classic, you do not see more in the book than you did before; you see more in yourself than there was before.”
     — Clifton Fadiman

Each December, we unpack a box of holiday books and Christmas stories that our family has accumulated over the years.  I don’t always have time to re-read all of them, but I try to get to at least some of them.  I seem to never tire of these classic stories.

“A truly great book should be read in youth, again in maturity, and once more in old age.”
     — Robertson Davies

If you get a chance, could you send me the author of Christmas on Jane Street? I wonder if I’ll get to my collection of Christmas titles??? Too many other things need attention right now.

I was just thinking last night that I needed to start reading my Christmas books-its an annual tradition to read one each night before I go to bed. I acquire a few each year, so I need to start earlier each year.
